Problem is now is if I did fix them I'd have to somehow combine the current database now with the other one. Might be too difficult to do at this point since I don't really have experience in doing that.

Yeah, I can see how merging two databases would be harder than just fixing the old one. I wouldn't worry too much about recovering the data now. Most understand and have reposted things... 
If I can't do something naked, it's not worth doing...
